The interior design venture for the travel brand “moln” was conceived as an embodiment of the brand’s ethos. Derived from the Swedish word for “cloud,” “moln” symbolizes a presence that transcends boundaries, evolving with the surroundings like the ever-changing clouds in the sky. In alignment with this narrative, our vision for the space was to create a harmonious interplay of lightness and solidity, akin to the ethereal yet grounded nature of clouds.
Material Palette
Central to our design strategy was the selection of natural materials characterized by subdued hues. Light-toned stone with a textured surface, gray linoleum, and soft fabrics were meticulously chosen to complement “moln’s” product range, which draws inspiration from earthy tones found in nature. Extending beyond the floor, stone was integrated into most of the walls and display units, leveraging the store’s semi-basement setting to evoke a cavernous ambiance illuminated by gentle lighting.
Spatial Configuration
Despite spatial constraints, our objective was to cultivate an ambiance akin to a serene lounge setting. The store layout features minimalistic elements, including display stands, a central bench and presentation counter, and a desk at the rear. Strategic placement of these elements fosters an expansive atmosphere within the compact space. A prominent mirror facilitates immersive product experiences, enabling customers to interact with suitcases while seamlessly navigating through the store.
Vision Amidst Adversity
In light of the global travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, “moln” emerges as a beacon of hope for wanderlust enthusiasts awaiting the resurgence of global mobility. The brand’s launch signifies an optimistic anticipation of a future where travel transcends barriers once again. Through our design interventions, we endeavor to convey “moln’s” vision and instill a renewed appreciation for the essence of travel amidst evolving paradigms.
