Instagram continues to introduce new features, following the recent release of its predictive trends report. Among these updates is the reintroduction of the chronological feed feature, which was disabled in 2016. Additionally, Instagram has extended the duration of videos in stories from 15 seconds to 60 seconds. Now, the platform is set to offer users three new options for organizing their feeds, providing enhanced customization options for their browsing experience.
New Feed Options
According to a tweet by Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, users will soon have access to three new feed options: Home, Favorites, and Following. While the standard Home feed remains unchanged, the Favorites and Following options offer users more control over the content they see.
Favorites Feed
With the Favorites feed setting, users can curate their feed to display content only from accounts they have marked with a star. By limiting their feed to selected accounts, users can avoid content overload and focus on seeing updates from their favorite creators and friends.
Following Feed
Alternatively, users can opt for the Following feed view, which displays content exclusively from accounts they are following in chronological order. This option excludes posts from accounts that the user does not follow, allowing for a more streamlined browsing experience.
Testing Phase and Rollout
These new features are currently in the testing phase and are expected to be available to the majority of accounts in the coming months, with a full rollout anticipated in the first half of 2022. Instagram’s decision to introduce these customization options reflects a shift towards offering users more control over their feed, in contrast to the AI-driven suggestions introduced earlier.
As Instagram continues to evolve its platform, users can look forward to more personalized and tailored experiences, empowering them to engage with content that resonates most with their interests and preferences.
