Instagram Discontinues Live Shopping Feature

Social media giant Instagram has revealed its decision to end the live shopping feature on its platform effective March 16. This feature enables users to tag products during their live broadcasts.

Discontinuation Announcement

In a support page update, Instagram announced that starting March 16, 2023, users will no longer have the option to tag products in live broadcasts. The company stated that this move is intended to prioritize products and features that offer the greatest value to its user base.

Continued Support for Shops

While live shopping will no longer be available, users can still set up and operate their shops on Instagram. The platform remains committed to enhancing shopping experiences for both individuals and businesses across various features, including feed posts, stories, Reels, advertisements, and more.

Unaffected Live Broadcasting Features

Instagram assured users that other live broadcasting functionalities will remain unaffected by this change. Users will still have access to features such as scheduling live broadcasts, inviting guests to join live sessions, and conducting live Q&A sessions.

Previous Shopping Tab Removal

This announcement follows Instagram’s recent decision to remove the shopping tab from the main navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. The button to create a new post will be relocated, while the Reels tab will take the place of the Shop tab in the navigation bar.

The decision to discontinue the live shopping feature underscores Instagram’s ongoing efforts to refine its platform and enhance user experiences across various functionalities.
